Imagine,
traveling in spacious comfort of elegant historic surroundings, resting at
ease in a comfortable chair as the miles slip past.
...viewing
spectacular scenery through large windows as it passes before your eyes.
...white jacketed stewards with silver trays serving you at your seat-- no
need to get up as just a nod or ring of the bell will bring them to you.
Watch memorable skylines recede into the distance as a new adventure
begins.
Travel
into a resplendent sunset, while toasting to a wonderful journey unfolding
as the miles click by. Dine at white clothed tables, set with china and
glassware.... After being tempted by delicious aromas from the kitchen,
savor meals prepared by accomplished railroad chefs--- roast ham and
raspberry corncakes, grilled steaks and steamed vegetables, fresh fruits,
and famous Pullman specialties such as hash-browned potatoes, Chicken
Marengo, and grilled lamb chops.
There's
no need to imagine, however, as you can enjoy rail travel like this by
private railroad car today, gliding along the rails to a pleasant get
away. All of this can by yours aboard, the 1930's Pullman railroad car,
DOVER HARBOR. Based in Washington, D.C., the DOVER HARBOR, a six double
bedroom, buffet kitchen, lounge car is available for charter from the
Washington, D.C. Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society. This
car, which operated in regular first class passenger train service through
1966, is now the only one of a fleet of over eight thousand revenue cars
operated during the 1930's by the Pullman Company still operating
nationwide in main line railroad service. Since purchasing the car in
1979, the goal of the Washington,
D.C. Chapter NRHS has been to restore the DOVER HARBOR and to give our
passengers the chance to the experience of travel by Pullman. So don't
imagine--- let us welcome you aboard!
